ART + POETRY
Poem by Mark Dews (@TearLessPoet)

Rhythm seductive
from head to toe
it flows,
beauty
in motion
even has the wind
in a twirl,
laugh so sultry it
dances
through your heart,
a hypnotic dancer
like poetry
in motion,
vibrant dance
is the embodiment
of art.

"That beautiful season the Summer! Filled was the air with a dreamy and magical light; and the landscape lay as if new created in all the freshness of childhood." ~ Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

Art History ::: SUNSET AT SEA 1911

SUNSET AT SEA
34x34" Oil on Canvas, 1911
by Childe Hassam
Rose Art Museum, Brandeis Unversity, Waltham
Gift of Mr. and Mrs. Monroe Geller, New York

"Sunset at Sea," an oil on canvas defined by a red sky set against a shimmering green ocean, was painted in 1911 by the Dorchester-born Hassam and donated to the Rose in 1958. It has rarely been displayed at the museum.

Hassam, who died in 1935, painted "Sunset at Sea" as one of a series of pictures inspired by his time visiting Appledore, an island off the coast of Maine and New Hampshire. The painting has been exhibited at many museums across the country; in 2004 it was featured in a Hassam show at the Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The Rose Art Museum sold this prized painting by Impressionist artist Childe Hassam for an estimated $3.7 million at an auction at Christie's in 2007. This sale was the largest in the Brandeis University museum's history.

"Art, to me, is the interpretation of the impression which nature makes upon the eye and brain." ~ Childe Hassam

LIP LADY by Tye Johnson

LIP LADY

Member Artist, C.C.Art Gallery
Mixed Media on Canvas

FROM THE ARTIST:
I have always been fascinated with people and their dreams, or lack thereof. It amazes me, self included, that so many people fail to realize the beauty and importance of their own existence.

We are the crayons, the paint, and that color this world and we have the power to create the ultimate portrait that God has envisioned.

Art + Poetry ::: THE SOLO

THE SOLO
by Nshira
30x40" Acrylic on Canvas

Poem by Zian Silverwolf
Bring the rhythm,
For the dark of days is lost
As the music brings the sun
Hear him play,
The world be made of grey,
But the heart is gold,
It brings the soul
To the guitar that he holds.

Hear the riff
From the guitar man with the joyful hands
As fingers drift by fingertips,
A sweet song from sun-drenched lands

In the grey of night,
He brings delight
Through the sunshine in his hands.

Baby Steps
a poem by Mario

my skin misses natural light
longing for the moment
when escape from the Stalag is real
I will run
feet floating over broken glass and plasma
past the flowers and away from harm
I run
past momentary lethargy and questionable practice
putting my toy truck to good use
cleaning up our current condition
placing the debris somewhere where adults will forget
my nana tells me to take baby steps
she knows I can fly

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
"I painted this work of my son sitting on the couch reading from a photo I took of this event. He was always a smart little boy, putting himself to sleep at a young age, and rarely crying as a baby. I loved the way he looked at the book, as if he could really read the page, his little lips moving as he scanned the pictures. I was so moved by this image that I wanted to create a painting from it. It has become a favorite painting of mine." - Martha Wade

I Create: Music (Marcos Palacios)

I Create Music featuring Marcos 'Kosine' Palacios: Producer and Professor extraordinaire!

Marcos 'Kosine' Palacios is the kind of man that you would be proud to have in your life. He has been through struggles in his life, and come out much stronger because of them. Known to his Columbia College students as Mr. Kosine on Da Beat - his energy and light shines through in his enthusiasm about life, and in his music.

This is the very first video that I produced at Frequency Television, Columbia College Chicago. I shot, produced, and edited this entire piece, and fell in love with Kosine in the process. The positive energy and advice he gives to his students and fans is empowering and inspiring!

You can watch Kosine on Da Beat and his team of producers on THE INTERNZ Television show. Check out Da Blog.

Artist of the Month: JASON BARRE

August is the time when fall is fast approaching. A time when we can look forward to the vibrant colors soon to fall from the trees and fill our world.

MEET JASON BARRE
Its the perfect time of the year to introduce my new artist friend from historic Milford, Ohio - Jason Barre (aka Jabinya) one of the most vibrant painters I have met. As you can see from this post, his energy and talent shine through in his work.

Jason refers to himself as a lot of things. Among them a “free associator” and “random generator” referring to his ability to pluck energy from the stream to project it onto canvas.

Jason creates vibrant pieces of artwork that elevate the energy level in the room!

His paintings make you smile, freak, emote, and feel inspired to create something great.

The pieces are the definition of those terms. His use of brush strokes as an element in the art catches the eye and draws you in while provoking thoughts.

The most noticeable art pieces by Jason are his portraits. They are extremely emotive and expressive.

The vivid colors Barre uses on a persons face seem to perfectly capture one emotion and freeze it in time. The deep and detailed strokes of paintings like 'AWARE' and 'HEH' give each painting a sense of jumping out at you.

Jason says "Most often I try to capture the apex of emotional expression in my portraits. When feeling too constrained by form, I explore the feelings of color."

CUSTOM CANVAS ART
Jabinya is one of the first true visual artists that I met on Twitter, and I am honored to know him. Follow @Jabinya for heartfelt, kind, and twitpic progression of painting tweets!
